Health and Safety Standards in Corporate Transportation

Health and safety standards in corporate ground transportation

Corporate travel programs ask the same question of every ground-transportation supplier: how do you keep our travelers safe? Gem Worldwide has been answering that question for 50 years. Our health, safety, and hygiene standards are continuously reviewed against CDC guidance, EPA-approved disinfectant practices, OSHA workplace requirements, and the operational lessons learned from a half-century of moving Fortune 500 executives. The result is a transportation program corporate buyers can underwrite without footnotes.

Vehicle sanitation standards

  • Pre-trip inspection and cleaning — Every vehicle in the Gem fleet receives a full interior cleaning before each reservation. High-touch surfaces — door handles, seatbelt buckles, window controls, console — are wiped down with EPA-approved disinfectant rated for enveloped viruses.
  • HEPA-grade cabin filtration — Our newer executive sedans, SUVs, and Sprinters are equipped with HEPA cabin air filters. Filter replacement is on a defined fleet maintenance cycle.
  • Disinfectant supplies on board — Hand sanitizer available in every vehicle. Disposable wipes on request for the traveler.
  • Mid-day deep cleans — Vehicles running multiple trips per day receive an interior wipe-down between every reservation, plus a deeper end-of-shift clean before going back into rotation.

Chauffeur health and training

  • Annual health and operational training — Every Gem chauffeur completes annual recertification covering safe-driving practices, vehicle inspection, sanitation procedures, customer-service standards, and defensive-driving training.
  • Daily wellness check — Chauffeurs are required to confirm they are fit for duty at the start of every shift. Anyone showing symptoms is pulled from rotation immediately, with full coverage backfilled from the dispatch pool.
  • Background checks and licensing — Commercial driver's license, motor vehicle records pull, multi-state criminal background check, drug-screen panel, and ongoing road-skill recertification.

Insurance and risk management

$5M+ commercial automobile liability per vehicle. $2M general liability. Workers' compensation coverage. Additional umbrella coverage available on request for programs with higher risk thresholds. Insurance certificates issued same-day on request via the corporate accounts desk.

Duty of care for corporate programs

For Fortune 500 corporate travel programs that require duty-of-care reporting: Gem exports trip manifests to your corporate security team on a defined cadence — typically nightly or weekly depending on program preference. Vehicle ID, chauffeur name, pickup time, dropoff time, route, and exception flags are all included. Programs running on Concur, Sabre, or Groundspan can also pull this data through the booking-channel reporting tools.
